Automated adhesive pressure-applied microplate and tube rack sealer

Where heat sealers apply film under elevated temperature, the COLD-PRO seals using adhesive and pressure at ambient operating temperatures, making it suitable for biological samples and applications where heat cannot be used. The unit uses a roll of surface-modified film, cuts it to length inline, and applies it directly to the plate surface.

The Ultraseal COLD-PRO

The Ultraseal COLD-PRO is an automated adhesive pressure-applied microplate and tube rack sealer. Rather than using heat to bond the sealing film to the plate, it relies on adhesive and pressure, operating across a temperature range of 10°C to 40°C. This makes it a complete solution for applications where heat-based sealing is unsuitable. 

The unit uses a roll of surface-modified aluminium or plastic film, approximately 80mm wide and 200m long, positioned to the rear of the sealing section. Using a total inline method, the film is pulled through the unit, cut to between 124mm and 130mm in length, and applied to the plate top surface. The unit is both pneumatically and electrically operated and requires both supplies at the point of installation. 

The Ultraseal COLD-PRO is compatible with a wide range of plates, tube racks and custom applications, covering shallow and deep well formats. Supported plate materials include polystyrene, polyethylene, polypropylene, CoC and CoP, and a wide range of compatible seals, films and foils is available including optically clear, low temperature and gas permeable options. The unit is compatible with ANSI standard plates and vial holders and is easy to program for both operator and integrator use. 

The Ultraseal COLD-PRO is designed and manufactured by Kbiosystems, part of Porvair Life Sciences. It carries UKCA and CE certification.
