About this handler

The Scorpion is an automated microplate handler that enables laboratories to step up to automated plate handling in combination with OEM liquid handling systems. It works with a wide range of microplates, tube racks, shallow and deep well formats, handling all SBS footprint applications and a range of racks. 

The Scorpion handles plates with or without lids. The optional lid lift upgrade allows the Scorpion to remove the lid from a plate prior to placement on the liquid dispensing system, reducing potential contamination during the transfer. A plate restack option is available for workflows where plates need to be fed from and retrieved into a secondary piece of equipment, allowing plates to be internally reprocessed back into their original stack orientation. 

Integration with liquid handling and automation systems is via a direct RS232 link. Proprietary firmware and an application driver are supplied as standard. The Scorpion is easy to program and suited to both operator and integrator use. 

The Scorpion requires both an electrical supply and a compressed air supply at the point of installation. It is designed and manufactured by Kbiosystems, part of Porvair Life Sciences, and carries UKCA and CE certification.
